Truly, the winners in the CoronaVirus outbreak is currently a dozen small countries and African nations, a few in Southeast Asia which reportedly have NO cases. NO deaths. They're doing fine.
But the "race" is between who is going to crack that 1% mark earliest.
The small country of San Marino passed the line long ago, followed by Qatar. A few days ago, the USA was in 8th place in terms of cases per person, only to get passed by Kuwait. Whose small population means it's a lot easier for them to raise their rate. A few people get sick, and up it goes. Whereas the USA has to infect several thousand of its people to make a dent in the percentage.
But we've managed it. Trying desperately to be the worst affected nation to the disease, we slowed our recovery in Mid-May, engaged in several revelries during Memorial Day, which have yet to show up in our caseload (and wont for a week or two yet), we might be able to ramp up our toll and skate through 0.6% and 0.7%.
We're going to be hard pressed to pass all the countries that are ahead of us. For we have 3 Orders of Magnitude more cases for a lower percentage of people affected.
And yet, still, there are many who think The Don Drumpf is doing just fine.
